We will look at artwork done by the Aboriginal people of Australia, from anonymous cave paintings that are at least 50 thousand years old, to the large canvasses produced today by star artists whose work is selling on the international market for many thousands, if not millions, of dollars. And of course a lot in between. We will look at the themes that have moved these artists to produce their work and how closely they relate to their feeling for their homeland and ancestral history. We will look closely at the stylistic methods they use and have used (most famously the ”dots”) and then incorporate any or all of the above into our own artwork. This topic is one that all students of any level of ability or experience can benefit from, the themes are universal and easy to understand and the styles use do not require any previous level of expertise. What most of previous students have said is how relaxing this type of art-making is!
