Exhibitions have been crucial to the development of art over the last 250 years, whether as the affirmation of the old or the shock of the new. This course will recreate some of the most famous and infamous exhibitions ever staged; amongst others, the first Impressionist exhibition of 1874 and the Nazi ‘Degenerate Art’ exhibition in 1937 and explore how and why the exhibition came to play such an important role in art development.
